Health intervention programs for the KEFFESO communities are essential for addressing the unique challenges faced by these areas, such as limited healthcare access, poor infrastructure, inadequate healthcare personnel, and high rates of preventable diseases. The program aim to improve health outcomes by providing necessary medical services, education, and resources tailored to the specific needs of rural populations.
Key Focus Areas of Health Interventions:
Access to Primary Healthcare Services
Five ( 5 ) of the communities lack access to healthcare facilities, and those that exist are understaffed or under-resourced. The health intervention program focused on expanding access to primary care through provision of manpower. In this regard, 12 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) and Six Health Monitors were engaged in year 2020 from amongst the indigenes of the KEFFESO communities. We also provide incentives to ( 13) government personnel to attract and retain health workers in our communities.
Medical Outreach Programme
Medical outreach services are one of the possibilities to enhance awareness and orientation on preventive health practices and access to health services to targeted areas and populations to promote community health. The KEFFESO Annual Medical Outreach Programme is a Direct Social Investment ( DSI) initiative of our sponsor ( FIRST E&P ) . The outreach Since its inception in 2022 the programme has reached over 6,000 beneficiaries across the communities. Services rendered include; Disease prevention & control, Eye care Services, Dental Care and General Medical services.
Objectives
The main aim of the health intervention programme is to improve public health and ensure access to quality medical care to the members of the KEFFESO communities. Specifically, the objectives of the outreach include:
To provide medical consultations and basic health screenings.
Creating awareness among members of the community on health issues
To educate the community on preventive healthcare practices.
To identify and address prevalent health issues within the community.
To establish a mechanism for follow-up care to sustained the outreach gains.
Health Intervention Impacts
The health outreach programme has increased and created equitable access to essential health services ( eyecare, dental care ) which are non -existant in the available government health facilities within the area.
Individuals have been empowered with knowledge to make healthier life style choices as a result of the awareness ( HIV/AIDS, High Blood Pressure Hand washing campaigns etc. ) created .
The health intervention programme has improved the productivity of the community’s workforce.
The cost of health care has reduced significantly as opposed to when the only alternative to accessing health care was in Yenagoa or Warri.
2. Healthcare Infrastructure Development
Most of our communities have outdated or poorly equipped healthcare infrastructure. Programs aimed at improving the physical infrastructure of healthcare centers—including building or renovating clinics, providing medical equipment, are key to improving health service delivery. These are part of our 5-Year Community Development Plan for implantation in Oginibiri, Ezetu 2, Fishtown, Ezetu 1, Okumbiribeleu and Opu-okumbiri communities
